Sad News About Two SCU Cyclists

Within two days SCU has suffered the loss of two beloved members, Jason Lee and Al Herman. I personally feel lucky to have ridden with both of them. I rode with Al shortly after joining the club and then with Jason in more recent years. There is more information below about each. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

Steve Muth
SCU President

Jason Lee, Age 63

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of one of our SCU “fast boys,” Jason Lee, to cancer. Jason passed at 9 am on April 11th, 2024, with his family around him at his home in Lansdale, PA. While he embraced all forms of biking – road, gravel, and mountain – he especially enjoyed the camaraderie and the sweet treats at group café breaks. We will miss his exuberant spirit and warm friendship. The funeral will be a private ceremony with only close family members present.

Al Herman, Age73

Al Herman passed away the morning of Tuesday, April 9, 2024, after a struggle with dementia. Al was a cornerstone of SCU for many years. He served on numerous Century Committees as well as on the Executive Committee as President. He was a regular leader on weeknight rides at Hatboro-Horsham High School and participated in many group trips with the club. Those of us who rode with Al will remember him not only for his service to the club, but also for his cheerfulness and irreverent sense of humor. Several years ago he moved to California to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Fern. No information is available regarding services.
