Oh, but wait! I almost forgot. Somebody has to PLAN the party first!
What our club truly needs at the moment is a Social Director. Somebody who is essentially a party planner for our social events. Somebody to pick a time and place, organize the food and beverages, round-up a few helpers, invite some friends, then let the fun begin. Each year there are usually three social events, two outdoor picnic-type events, typically June and September, and the end-of-year Annual Celebration in January (formerly called the Banquet). But there is a lot of room for creativity. You also get to sit on the Executive Committee and participate in other club matters.
Are you hesitating because party planning sounds like fun, but you're not ready to take on all three events and sit on the EC? No problem! Feel free to organize only one of the three events without wearing a Social Director party hat. The greatest need right now is for the upcoming June event, but they're all up for grabs. No experience necessary. Coaching by experienced individuals is available. All you really need is some energy and enthusiasm for having a good time with your biking buddies.
Still hesitating? You can put yourself in the right frame of mind with a little party music before contacting Steve "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody" Muth at president@suburbancyclists.org to get started planning the parties, or to just ask questions.
