Presidents Message
Samer Pic v2
Another year in the books of our formidable club! Happy New Year to all SCU members and I hope you enjoyed the holidays with family and friends. What a pleasure and privilege to be serving the club as your new president. My family and I have been involved with SCU since 2012. During this time I have thoroughly enjoyed the interactions with all of you as a rider, volunteer, ride leader, and EC member.

Whether we have achieved, exceeded or fell behind our goals, January is the time of the year where we set new goals and challenge ourselves to become more active and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Our club also needs to set its goals. I invite all members to get involved and attend the January Executive Committee meeting to share your ideas on how we can take SCU to the next level.

While I thought volunteering is very important to our club, it is not until I served on the EC last year that I realized how much effort and how many volunteers it takes to keep things running. For many, cycling/hiking plays a key role in improving health, striking a good work life balance, and staying active while having fun. For this, we are grateful to SCU for offering its members and the community the gift of “social exercising”. Motivation is increased (unlikely to hit snooze and roll back over) and there’s a bond that is created when we struggle and sweat to grind our way through a tough climb. These are just few of many reasons why it may be easier and more fun to get healthy and fit in a group setting. I invite and urge all of you to give back to the club and pledge to volunteer for one or two events or maybe be more involved and serve on the executive committee in 2020.

In particular, we have an ambitious goal regarding the Quad (see below) and this can only be achieved if we have a record number of volunteers to help position the Quad as a prime ride in the area we serve. So I urge you again to contact the EC or myself to pledge to volunteer.

On behalf of the club members and the new EC, I would like to thank Steve Muth (our outgoing president) and his EC for all what they have accomplished in 2018. We still have a lot to accomplish this year and I look forward to partnering with you.
Briefly, here are some high level goals we strive to meet in 2019:
-Achieve high level of active volunteering leveraging the diverse skill set of the members
-Work with the club ride leaders to enhance communication on safety tips prior to each ride
-Reposition the Quad as one of the top cycling event in the area
  -Ensure smooth succession planning
-Each member of the EC to closely shadow and “train” an SCU member as a potential successor

Finally, I am looking forward to working with you and the elected EC. I welcome your ongoing feedback and ideas on how to improve club operations and activities.

Last, but not least SCU continues to be grateful to all the volunteers for their hard work and dedication.

Ride!
